Description
The Mokume-gane technique was invented in the 17th century by the swordsmith Denbei Shoami, who lived in northern Japan.
He was an incredibly skilled craftsman, and one day while forging swords, he noticed that colored metals could be fused together to create textures resembling lacy Damascus steel.
The complexity of this technique lay in the fact that metals that are practically incompatible were joined together to form very beautiful and intricate patterns that never repeated themselves. They are unique; there is only one like it among a billion others. Just as every person is unique—with their facial features, fingerprints, and the strings of their soul—it is impossible to replicate the same mokume pattern.
You’ve probably noticed that all the pieces in the mokume-gane collection are different: it all depends on the flight of the jeweler’s imagination and creativity.
We named the earrings “Seishi,” which means “resonance of waves.” The name comes from the wave-like shape of the pattern: it is chaotic, as if searching for a point of support. The earrings are adorned with garnets set in gold.
